Hotel Montafon – Vorarlberg
For children arriving at Hotel Montafon, the conundrum is what to head for first, the bouncy tree, the slide to the lower floor, the sheep grazing in reception or the giant 2metre tall teddy minding his own business on his reception lounger. Having children consult for a hotel designed for families is smart business. At Hotel Montafon they cater for families with new borns to young teens. Activities are designed primarily to entertain but with a little education snuck in.
The family theme carries through to the bedrooms where children have their own room, many with bunk den to play or hide in before bed. Dining continues the theme and if comprehensive can be considered a culinary art, it is very much in motion here. Children have their own choices whilst adults can choose between freshly cooked meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. Spreads of hams, cheeses, fruits, breads and salads are rounded off by very grown-up desserts to ice creams and sweets for the kids, or maybe adults storing sugars for the next days rigours. Rates include breakfast, dinner and “Jause” – to the uninitiated a late lunch taken after skiing, but be warned overindulgence will spoil your appetite for dinner!
Skiing requires equipment, so rather than dragging everything through the airport why not hire and store in the hotel’s own hire shop and storage, everything is available to pre-book, from boots, skis and helmets. Once suitably attired, the lifts just 150 metres away and from there 44 kilometres of slopes for all levels awaits. And if ski is not your thing in summer take a bike out from the hotel’s racks or perhaps the kids might enjoy the metres of slides dotted all over the hillsides. For those who prefer the great indoors Montafon has pools, waterslides with timers for the competitive, a spa to relax and a whole host of activities including gym, table football and a climbing wall for the little ones.
Hotel Montafon is a family hotel and won’t suit couples or singles travelling alone. It’s a perfect venue year-round for those looking to keep the family fully entertained, both staying as a family group and also interacting with children of a similar age.
