Jade Mountain

The Hotel

Rising majestically above the 600 acre beach front resort of Anse Chastanet, Jade Mountain is a cornucopia of organic architecture celebrating St Lucia’s stunning scenic beauty.

Architect owner Nick Troubetzkoy has expanded upon his philosophy of building in harmony with Caribbean nature in his creation of Jade Mountain. The bold architectural design – individual bridges leading to exceptional infinity pool sanctuaries and rugged stoned-faced columns reaching towards the sky – makes Jade Mountain one of the Caribbean’s most mesmerizing resort experiences.

Expect grand sweeping spaces where bedroom, living area and an extravagant private infinity pool glide into one another to form extraordinary platforms floating out into nature. With the fourth wall entirely absent, Jade Mountain’s sanctuaries are stage-like settings from which to embrace the full glory of St Lucia’s Pitons World Heritage Site, and of course, the eternal Caribbean Sea.

The Jade Mountain sanctuaries are deliberately techno-free; there are no telephones, radio or television. Internet access is available at reception for those who simply cannot let go of the outside world as the resort encourages you to! The resort major domos and a dedicated resort team ensure outstanding service around the clock.

Wrapped around an infinity pool with a dazzling kaleidoscope of colors, the Jade Mountain Club caters exclusively to resident guests, celebrating James Beard Award winner, Chef Allen Susser’s “Jade Cuisine.” Hovering in space above the Jade Mountain Club is the Celestial Terrace, perfect for sunset cocktails or star-gazing. In addition are the 3 restaurants at Anse Chastanet available to Jade Mountain guests at all times. On five nights a week, ‘Apsara’ the Indian restaurant opens its doors. Whilst at Treetops you can choose from a varied international menu. Finally try Emerald’s the hotel’s vegetarian restaurant which is supplied daily with fresh organic produce from the hotel’s own farm.

A wide range of spa services can be enjoyed in the privacy of the Jade Mountain sanctuaries or at Kai en Ciel, Jade Mountain’s boutique spa and fitness studio.

Enjoy the exclusivity and privacy of Jade Mountain whilst always having all the facilities of Anse Chastanet available to you at all times, including the two beaches Anse Chastanet and Anse Mamin, where if you wish you can do no more than sway in a hammock swung between two shady palms or lie under a thatched umbrella. These powder soft sand beaches will satisfy even the most demanding of beach Connoisseurs. For the more active, through large wooden gates on Anse Mamin is a gateway to the resorts plantation and 12 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. The trails range from introductory with no more than the occasional tree root to tip you off your bike to the super energetic uphill climb for the enthusiast. A stroll or guided tour under the plantation’s thick canopy is an ideal way to escape from the heat of the early afternoon sun. For the ‘birder ‘ Anse Mamin is also home to some of St Lucia’s rarest birds.

For the water enthusiast, there are a whole host of complimentary non-motorised Watersports also some of the best diving in St Lucia. Snorkellers need never leave the bay as frequent guests include sea horses and turtles, whilst the house reef aqua equivalent of Spaghetti Junction with shoals of fish criss-crossing in every direction. For the diver, the furthest of around 20 dive sites is 20 minutes away by boat.

For couples thinking of getting married or honeymooning in St Lucia, Jade Mountain offers the perfect setting. Weddings are such a personal and special event in a couples life, you cannot buy an ‘off the shelf package’. So whilst the basics may have a common thread, couples marrying here discuss their plans with our Wedding co-ordinator, who fashions the couple’s dreams into the special day.

Browse our picture gallery to get a real feel of the understated luxury that is Jade Mountain. You can click on the image to expand it and as Telly Savalas said, ‘if a picture can paint a thousand words.....

Getting to St Lucia and getting around when you’re there:

From the UK both British Airways (www.BA.com) and Virgin Atlantic (www.virgin-atlantic.com) fly nonstop to St Lucia from Gatwick and flights can be booked online or via a travel agent or tour operator. Flying inter-island tends to be with LIAT (www.liatairline.com) which operates much like a bus service hopping from one island to the next.

St Lucia is 27 miles long by 14 wide, covered in tropical and rain forest and lots of peaks and of course valleys. The north of the island is the commercial end with many local bars and restaurants that are popular with tourists. Most of the large hotels are here as well. The Soufriere region where Anse Chastanet is situated is scenically the most attractive, although limited in outside evening activity. Probably the quickest way to get round is by boat as the roads tend to curve and hug the side of the hills and mountains. Local taxis and buses are available, but the buses are probably not ideal for longer journeys as they are always very full and tend to stop a lot. Driving is relatively easy and car hire is available from around £25 a day. On arrival and departure it’s recommended you leave it up to the experts and pre-book a transfer approximately £45 each way).

Activities and facilities

Jade Mountain Club

Wrapped around an infinity pool with a dazzling kaleidoscope of colours and mesmerising views of the Pitons, surrounding hills and sea, The Jade Mountain Club caters exclusively to resident guests. James Beard Award winner Chef Allen Susser created “Jade Cuisine” exclusively for the Jade Mountain Club. In both choice and flavours, the food served is some of the best in the Caribbean. Hovering in space above the Jade Mountain Club is the Celestial Terrace, perfect for sunset cocktails or star-gazing.

Room Service
Many guests appreciate their romantic surroundings and so chose to dine in the privacy of their sanctuary. There is a room service menu, but guests can also dine from the Jade Mountain Club menu which changes daily.

Reservations for Jade Mountain guests can be made for any of the four restaurants at Anse Chasanet, or for a truly romantic occasion, dinner can be served in your sanctuary.

Activities for the Lounger

A wide range of spa services can be enjoyed in the privacy of the Jade Mountain sanctuaries or at Kai en Ciel, Jade Mountain’s boutique spa.

Activities for the Active

There is also a fitness studio exclusively for Jade Mountain guests.

Jade Mountain guests can use all the facilities at Anse Chastanet including the restaurants and bars. If booked on a meal plan you can eat in any of the restaurants at no extra charge. Shown below are all the facilities available at Anse Chastanet for your use.

Restaraunts and Bars

Treehouse Restaurant
Located on the hillside, the Treehouse restaurant serves Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. There are two parts to the restaurant, the main part is open air (a roof, but no walls), and overlooks lush tropical foliage and the Caribbean Sea. The second part is for the brave, a wooden balcony that hugs the side of the main restaurant, but just a shade closer to nature. Look over the railing and you look down some 80 feet to the roots of the trees – conclusive proof the restaurant is ‘tree top’. The cuisine is a blend of Caribbean and other tropical world cuisine experiences. The dinner menu changes daily and is served in a romantic candlelit ambiance.

Emerald's - Vegetarian Cuisine
The Piton lounge is home to Emerald's offering an entirely vegetarian menu, showcasing the organic produce grown on the hotel’s farm Emerald Estate in the Soufriere hills.

Trou Au Diable Restaurant
Located right on the Anse Chastanet beach, here you can enjoy daily breakfast, lunch and dinner. The lunch menu is massive, so eat as little or as much as you like, but don’t forget to try the soup.
On Tuesday evenings, all guests enjoy a special Caribbean culinary evening in the Trou au Diable restaurant, which commences with a cocktail reception at 6 30 p.m. The atmosphere is festive with the entire stretch of beach in front of the restaurant lit up by flambeau candles.

Apsara
Six nights a week a little corner of St Lucia transforms itself into a superb Indian restaurant. Two Chefs from India came to Anse Chastanet to create an innovative fusion of modern East Indian and Caribbean cooking, a celebration of St Lucia historical and cultural ties with East India. In other words some of the best curries you’ll ever taste.

Beach Grill
For those looking for a light grill menu and a casual beach setting, then the beach grill in the beach bar will fit the bill.

Bars
There are two bars, one on the hillside close to the main restaurant and one on the beach. Both are open daily and close late.

Activities for the lounger

The Beach
Beach aficionados will appreciate the ever changing colours of the sand as the sun crosses overhead. The silver soft sand gently shelves away in crystal clear waters, a paradise for snorkellers with an abundance of marine life just feet from the shore, including sea horses and turtles. Whilst the twin beaches of Anse Chastanet and Anse Mamin are public, getting to them is a different story. If your idea of paradise is sitting under a shady palm surrounded by verdant forest and clear Caribbean waters in front this is just the place for you.

Kai Belte Spa
Located at beach level, the spa offers a full range of massages and treatments performed by qualified staff. Those preferring a location a little closer to nature can enjoy a massage in the Spa pavilion located on the hill overlooking the sea.

The Boutique
Located close to the beach, the boutique has a range of resort wear, local artworks, gift ideas plus of course the usual essentials normally forgotten in the haste of packing.

Activities for the active

Diving
The best dive centre in St Lucia and amongst the best in the Caribbean. At certain times of the year, whales pass by, but St Lucia is not the place to come if you’re looking for pelagic. All the dive sites, around 20, are within 20 minutes by boat, so no two tank dives needed. Wall, drift, wreck and night diving are all available. For more detail have a look at Scuba St Lucia’s site www.scubastlucia.com

Watersports
There’s a full range of complimentary Watersports available including Snorkelling, Windsurfing, Sunfish Sailing and Ocean Kayaking. Ocean kayaking is not the large yellow plastic whales you see on every beach, but a fast and streamlined transport. If you haven’t used an ocean kayak you’ll need an introductory course. You can then join one of the escorted excursions (at extra cost). Of course the yellow whales are also available for paddling close to shore. If you’d rather let someone else do the hard work, there are half day, day and sunset cruises available on the resorts private yacht.

Mountain Biking and Plantation Tours
In the next bay around is Anse Mamin a former fruit plantation which the hotel is busy restoring. Here is the home of the hotel’s own hiking and biking trails; over 12 miles of tracks ranging from the easy to the difficult. Top of the range mountain bikes are available for hire, or if you prefer you can wander through the forest on foot. Complimentary tours of the plantation are run daily and introduce you to the plants, nature and history.

Bird Watching
You don’t have to be a ‘twitcher’ to enjoy watching birds. The colour and variety is fascinating and no special equipment is required, but a pair of binoculars will bring you closer to all the secrets of the forest.

Tennis
There are 2 floodlit tennis courts available for both day and night use.

The Rooms

By any measure, the accommodation at Jade Mountain is spectacular and that’s not just the incredible views of the World Heritage site Pitons. The suites and sanctuaries are openly designed and range from over 1400 to over 2000 square feet in open space. Remove one wall and add a private infinity pool ranging from over 400 to over 900 square feet and you can start to appreciate why Jade Mountain has just been voted the best Caribbean hotel and the 3rd best hotel in the world by Caribbean + Leisure magazine, one of the most authoritative magazines on the subject of Caribbean holidays.

The twenty-four sanctuaries are each individually designed and each sanctuary and pool is uniquely different in layout and shape. The sanctuaries are large – openly designed - spaces in which the bathroom, bedroom and living areas and the infinity edge pool areas with 15 ft high soaring ceilings flow into one another. There is no formal separation between the sleeping and living spaces. The one common thread is that there are no bad views in the house; every view is sensational. The one missing wall in every sanctuary acts as an oversized picture frame perfectly capturing the astounding vista.

Galaxy Infinity Pool Sanctuaries

These are the best two sanctuaries at Jade Mountain and enjoy the most commanding panoramic views plus the biggest square footage. Technically Sun Sanctuaries, they have been put into their own category because they are the two most requested.

Sun Infinity Pool Sanctuaries

These infinity pool sanctuaries have commanding 270 degree panoramic views and are up to 2000 square feet in size. The infinity pools are up to 900 square feet in size. The combination of additional square footage and amazing panorama makes these sanctuaries the most desirable for all those seeking the ultimate experience.

Moon Infinity Pool Sanctuaries

The Moon infinity pool sanctuaries are between 1600-1950 square feet in size with infinity pools averaging 650 square feet.

Star Infinity Pool Sanctuaries

Star infinity pool sanctuaries are between 1400- 1800 square feet and with infinity pools averaging 450 square feet.

Jade Mountain's Sky Suites

In addition to the 24 infinity pool sanctuaries, there are 5 Sky Jacuzzi suites which are located in the lower hillside level at Jade Mountain. This is the only accommodation at Jade Mountain that does not have a private infinity pool. The suites are very spacious, about 1650 square feet, come with a Jacuzzi tub and have the 4th wall open.

All infinity pool sanctuaries and the sky suites have king size beds. In room facilities include fridge, tea/coffee maker, hairdryer, iron and ironing board (a member of housekeeping will gladly perform the chore for you). All infinity pool sanctuaries and the sky suites have an electronic call button to contact the service team at any time. There are no televisions, radios or telephone in the infinity pool sanctuaries and sky suites in keeping with the overall resort experience.
