Cala Caterina

The Hotel

Just 2 minutes walk through Pine shaded colourful Mediterranean gardens from the relaxed terraces of the Cala Caterina is a small sun baked sandy beach washed by cool crystal waters. It is no wonder that Sardinia has long been popular with holidaying Italians and the rich and beautiful. Here the clearness of the water is comparable with the Caribbean or South Pacific, fine sandy beaches, outstanding scenery and superb cuisine are just some of the reasons to visit.
The boutique Cala Caterina has the appearance of a Mediterranean villa and has just 48beautifully appointed rooms. The Classic rooms on the ground floor have a terrace, whilst the Superior rooms upstairs have balconies and better views. All are furnished in traditional Sardinian style with predominantly wooden furniture painted in pastel colours.

Apart from the secluded beach, guests of the Cala Caterina spend their time by the pool, wandering through the gardens or enjoying a massage in the beauty centre. If you want to supplement your relaxation time with a little activity, mountain biking, horse riding, tennis and a whole host of Watersports are available nearby.

The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and bar is open all day and well into the evening. Dining at Cala Caterina is very different from many hotels. There is of course an a la carte menu, but most guests opt for the ‘taster menu’ which changes daily. The taster menu consists of 3 or 4 or possibly 5 starters, a salad or pasta dish, followed by the main course with 2, 3 or 4 choices and dessert with maybe 4 or 5 different sweets. Being a taster menu, you eat everything, but if there is anything you don’t like, you just have a larger portion of something you do like!

For couples thinking of getting married or honeymooning in Sardinia, Cala Caterina offers the perfect setting. Weddings are such a personal and special event in a couples life, you cannot buy an ‘off the shelf package’. So whilst the basics may have a common thread, couples marrying here discuss their plans with our Wedding co-ordinator, who fashions the couple’s dreams into the special day.

Getting to Sardinia and getting around when you’re there:

From the UK British Airways (www.BA.com) fly from Gatwick. Easyjet fly from Luton (www.easyjet.com). Ryanair flies from Bristol, Manchester and Edinburgh (www.ryanair.com). Charter flights are also available, but tend to be less flexible in respect of durations and departure dates.

Sardinia is around 170 miles long by about 90 wide, so it is important to get the airport right. For Cala Caterina you need to fly to Cagliari which is a 40 minute drive away. If you fly to the airports in the North you’ll have a day long drive to get to your hotel. Getting around is very easyand there is an extensive bus network. Taxis are quite expensive, so for complete freedom to see and travel when you want, probably the best option is to hire your own car. Hiring costs from around £20 a day out of season, but in high season you’re strongly advised to pre-book before you travel. Driving around is quite easy with generally good signage. On arrival and departure it’s recommended you leave it up to the experts and pre-book a transfer or alternatively take a taxi (approximately £70 each way).

Activities and facilities

The Restaurant

Dining tends to be outdoors surrounded by rich Mediterranean gardens, or on the rare occasion of inclement weather, indoors in a traditional Italian styled dining room. Breakfast tends to be buffet, heavily reliant on fruits and sweet Italian pastries, although egg and bacon is generally available as well. The Dining highlight is the ‘Taster Menu’, a minimum of four courses each with two, three or even four different ‘taster’ dishes. The menu is repeated every 14 days to ensure guests enjoy something unique every evening. Lunch is served on the terrace or under the Pine Trees and nothing beats freshly grilled Sea Bass from the barbeque.
